A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST RANKIN HIGH SCHOOL "COUGARS" TENNIS TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Northwest Rankin High School "Cougars" Tennis Team won the Class 5A state title; and
WHEREAS, Northwest Rankin clinched the title after their win as District 4-5A Champions; and
WHEREAS, the team finished their season with a stellar 22-2 record; and
WHEREAS, several individual players received recognition: Charles Dunn was named to All-State - Mississippi Association of Coaches of the All-Star game, Jessica Barnthouse was named to All-State - Mississippi Association of Coaches of the All-Star game, and Ady Gurovich, Blake Jeter, Allison Hartman and Aaron DeCamp were all named to All-State; and
WHEREAS, much of the team's success was attributed to the determination and talents of Co-Head Coaches Gwen White and Anna Hughes; and
WHEREAS, the coaches said that, "As every year, our goal was to win the state championship; each team member gave his or her best effort. It was a complete team victory"; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the Cougars' outstanding achievement which has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Rankin "Cougars" Tennis Team for winning the State 5A Tennis Championship, and extend to the Cougars and Coaches Gwen White and Anna Hughes the best wishes of the Senate for success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coaches Hughes and White as well as the Principal of Northwest Rankin High School and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
