Senate Concurrent Resolution 519

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE, INC., FOR ITS CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP AND MEDICAL ACHIEVEMENTS ON THE OCCASION OF THE COMPANY'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY.

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., is a leading research-based healthcare company that ranks among the world's leaders in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics; and

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., with its capabilities in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, has been able to innovate across the entire healthcare spectrum, from identifying disease susceptibilities and disease screening in populations at risk, to prevention, therapy and treatment monitoring; and

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., today contributes to Mississippi's economy, tax base, and employment rate through their employment of fellow Mississippians by way of their sales and professional services staff; and

     WHEREAS, 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., over its 100-year history in this country, has ushered in such medical, and social innovations as:

·                    important medicines for diseases including cancer,   HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and critical pharmaceuticals to   safeguard the American people in the event of a flu pandemic;

·                    novel diagnostics that benefit people with diabetes,      heart disease, and cancer; and

·                    one of the first of the United States pharmaceutical      industries first formal indigent patient programs, and groundbreaking social innovations, such as the first     corporate-sponsored child care center in America; and

     WHEREAS, in marking this milestone, the company and its approximately 10,000 employees in this country, celebrate and renew their long-standing commitment to extending and improving people's lives throughout the United States and around the world; and

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., as one of the first companies in the United States to initiate a Corporate Giving Program, has long believed that business can help make a difference in society and that social responsibility is a key strategic component of exemplary business practice; and

     WHEREAS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., integrates corporate citizenship with the company's business goals through community involvement, relationship building, charitable contributions, and external partnerships, in such ways as support for health promotion and education, organ donation awareness, HIV-prevention education, HCV-prevention education, and employee volunteering:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., for its corporate citizenship and medical achievements on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature on its future public health endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be forwarded to the President of Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc., and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
