A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE NESHOBA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL "LADY ROCKETS" AND COACH TOMMY HOLLAND ON WINNING THE CLASS 4A GIRLS STATE FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Neshoba Central High School "Lady Rockets" Softball Team won the 2005 Class 4A Girls State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Rockets completed the 2005 season with an overall record of 24 wins and only 5 losses; and
WHEREAS, the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets swept Petal in the state championship series; and
WHEREAS, the hallmark of this championship team is its stellar defense, which was instrumental in the Lady Rockets' championship clinching 2-0 win over Petal; and
WHEREAS, in their march to the state championship, the Lady Rockets rolled over Terry, New Hope, and Hernando in the play-offs; and
WHEREAS, "I think we only had one error all day," said a proud Neshoba Central Coach Tommy Holland. "We are a sound defensive team, and that makes our pitching stronger. We know we can give up a hit and the defense will make the difference"; and
WHEREAS, Senior Pitcher Kady Chandler, one of three senior starters on the team, posted a 21-4 pitching record in 2005. Other senior starters are shortstop Jessi Nowell and first baseman Samantha Giambrone; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Neshoba Central High School "Lady Rockets" Softball Team and Coach Tommy Holland for their outstanding 2005 softball season and for winning the Class 4A Girls State Fast-Pitch Softball Championship, and extend to them the best wishes of the Senate for success in their future academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Neshoba Central High School and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
