WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Ridgeland, Mississippi, the Corinth High School "Warriors" Tennis Team won the school's 10th Class 3A State Championship, having won previous State Championships in 1981, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 2002; and

WHEREAS, Courtney Coleman and Anna Lambert defended their 2004 state title in girls' doubles, clinching the overall title by being the first event off the court.  The seniors, who finished a 22-3 mark, bested Cleveland 6-0, 6-0 to complete the back-to-back run; and

WHEREAS, the girls' doubles pair join twins Catherine Smith and Nancy Smith from Corinth High School as the only ones to repeat in the event; and

WHEREAS, Coach Wood is to be congratulated for his excellent match plan and for bringing out the best in his team; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding achievement by this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Corinth High School "Warriors" Tennis Team and Head Coach Lynn Wood for winning the Class 3A State Tennis Tournament, the Girls Doubles Championship and for the team's first Girls Singles Championship in over 20 years, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature on their future athletic and scholastic endeavors.
