A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GREENVILLE ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL "FIGHTING IRISH" TENNIS TEAM AND COACH ANGELA HENDRIX FOR WINNING THEIR 13TH TEAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Greenville St. Joseph Catholic School "Fighting Irish" Tennis Team is proud to boast its 13th team state championship, and its third consecutive state championship; and
WHEREAS, St. Joseph holds a MHSAA record for having the most team championships of any school classification 1A-5A; and
WHEREAS, inviting strong competition, St. Joseph has played teams consistently in the 2A-5A classifications during the regular season, finishing their regular season with a record of 11-1, losing only to Oxford High School; and
WHEREAS, the district tournament was easily won by the Fighting Irish making it their sixth back-to-back division crown, with seven teams participating, St. Joseph accrued 14 points, which was twice the points of any other team; and
WHEREAS, individual wins for the gold include boys double players, Cheston Cascio and Joseph Paul DeAngelo; and girls doubles players, Lauren Zepponi and Caroline Oakes; and
WHEREAS, Coach Angela Hendrix was chosen Mississippi Association of Coaches "Tennis Coach of the Year" for 2005, having previously won this honor in 2002; and
WHEREAS, team members for the Fighting Irish include: Seniors, Cheston Cascio, Victor Lucas, Lindsey Keen, Lindsey Santucci, Caroline Oakes, Lauren Zepponi; Juniors, Brittany Jelks, Joseph Paul DeAngelo; Sophomores, Katie Cazalas, Zach Molin, Toyia Slay, Frank Signa, Lenoir Taylor, Cathie Wrenn; Freshmen, Elizabeth Meadow, Cedrick Williams; Middle School, Angel DeAngelo, Maggie Artman, Sarah Maranto, Breta McDonnieal, Lauren Keen, Bobbie Hollins, Clay Curry and Stephen Serio; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding achievements of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Greenville St. Joseph Catholic School "Fighting Irish" Tennis Team and Coach Angela Hendrix for winning their 13th team state championship, which was also their third consecutive state championship, and for their outstanding 2005 season and extend best wishes for all their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Hendrix, the Headmaster of St. Joseph Catholic School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
