House Resolution 2

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED AND OUTSTANDING THIRTY-THREE-YEAR COACHING CAREER OF COACH REX BERRYMAN AND RECOGNIZING HIS REMARKABLE RECORD AS ONE OF THE STATE'S MOST OUTSTANDING COACHES.

WHEREAS, Coach Rex Berryman of Mooreville High School has established himself among the greatest coaches to grace the presence of a baseball field in the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, having graduated from New Site High School in 1968, Coach Berryman commenced his coaching career at Mooreville High School in 1972 after having received his associate's degree from Northeast Mississippi Junior College in 1970 and his bachelor's degree from Delta State University in 1972; and

WHEREAS, later attaining his master's degree in education in 1976 from Mississippi State University, Coach Berryman has coached three sports in the course of his athletic career, baseball, basketball and softball, and has attained 12 state championships between the three of them; and

WHEREAS, currently athletic director at Mooreville High School, Coach Berryman in the 33 years of coaching baseball, has served 29 of those years as basketball coach and 11 years as softball coach, compiling a state record in baseball championships with eight state titles and a 937-314 record; one basketball state championship with a record of 638-314; and three softball state championships with a 377-105 record; and

WHEREAS, a legend in his own right, he was elected to the Mississippi Association of Coaches Crossroads Diamond Club Hall of Fame in 1985, the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame and the Delta State Hall of Fame in 2004; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the accomplishments of such a great man as Coach Berryman, whose success has brought great honor and pride to his family and Mooreville High School:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished and outstanding coaching career of Coach Rex Berryman, recognize his great accomplishments as one of the state's most outstanding coaches and express our warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Rex Berryman, Mooreville High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
