A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SERGEANT DENNIS DARBY OF THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL UPON BEING NAMED STATE TROOPER OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, after 22 years of service with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, Sergeant Dennis Darby was recognized as the State Trooper of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Sergeant Darby received this distinguished honor for his lifetime of work, dedication and achievement and his extraordinary efforts in 2004 for combating crime, by having the most felony drug arrests in his district in Batesville; and

     WHEREAS, a mentor for his younger colleagues, many of whom aspire to equal prominence in the law enforcement and resident communities, Sergeant Darby has exemplified true commitment to his profession, moving through the ranks as DUI enforcement officer to working on the canine unit; and

     WHEREAS, having a deep respect for the three state troopers that lived on his block, Dennis Darby, who admired their look, their talk, their walk and their car became attracted to the field and applied to the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol at the age of 24 after graduating from Northwest Junior College in law enforcement, and was admitted to the elite society of officers when he was 28; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his career, Sergeant Darby's duties have ranged from helping deliver a baby his first year on the job to tracking fleeing suspects with his newest partner, Algo, a seven-year-old Belgium Malinois; and

     WHEREAS, encouraged and grounded by the simple words of gratitude from citizens, Sergeant Darby, who considers himself an average guy with a tremendous desire to perform his task well, enjoys his leisure time gardening with his wife, Kim; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence in the performance of our state's keepers of law, such as Sergeant Darby, whose zeal for compliance with the laws of the State of Mississippi has enabled him to achieve this great accomplishment:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Sergeant Dennis Darby upon being named Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol's State Trooper of the Year and extend our warmest wishes for continued safety and success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sergeant Dennis Darby and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
