A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KENNY DAWKINS, SENIOR GUARD ON THE HOLLY SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL 3-A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM, FOR BEING SELECTED TO THE ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM.
WHEREAS, Kenny Dawkins is a 5'9" Senior Guard on the Holly Springs High School "Mighty Hawks" Boys Basketball Team, and after a championship season, Kenny was selected to the 2005 Boys Basketball All-State Team; and
WHEREAS, featuring savvy and explosiveness at the point, Kenny Dawkins was the catalyst as the Mighty "Bad" Hawks (34-1) repeated as Class 3-A Boys State Tournament champions; and
WHEREAS, whether dishing off or draining a 3-pointer, Dawkins was Mr. Consistency for Holly Springs, which won its final 21 games. In the Hawks' 47-35 victory over Franklin County for a 3-A repeat, Dawkins scored 23 points and hit five treys; and
WHEREAS, "Kenny is much more aggressive than any player I've ever had," Holly Springs Coach Naylond Hayes said. "He's very smart and has a good basketball mind. He might be the smallest player on the court, but he's one of the toughest players. He'll take a charge even if the guy is 6'8". It doesn't matter"; and
WHEREAS, Auburn, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss are among the colleges interested in Dawkins, an Alabama/Mississippi All-Star; and
WHEREAS, "Kenny comes to practice every day ready to practice and he comes to every game ready to play defense and offense on both ends," said Hayes, who first noticed Dawkins as a ten-year-old competing in the National Youth Sports Program at Rust College; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this Mississippi student athlete, whose skill and leadership bring honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kenny Dawkins, Senior Guard on the Holly Springs High School "Mighty Hawks" Boys Basketball Team, upon his selection to the 2005 All-State Team, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Senate on his future athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Kenny Dawkins and his Coach, Naylond Hayes, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
