Senate Resolution 46

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING COACH DURWIN CARPENTER FOR HIS CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS COACH OF THE PILLOW ACADEMY LADY MUSTANGS BASKETBALL TEAM.

WHEREAS, Coach Durwin Carpenter, a native of Holcomb, Mississippi, has compiled an impressive career record of 354 wins and 58 losses since beginning his coaching career at Pillow Academy in 1994; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Delta State University, Coach Carpenter, who played basketball for two years at Holmes Community College before transferring to Delta State, where he played for one year, has enjoyed the success of the Lady Mustangs winning three state championships since being hired as coach; and

WHEREAS, Coach Carpenter's most recent victory came after he coached the 2004-2005 team for the Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs to a 41-28 victory over the Jackson Prep Patriots winning the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, in the course of his career of coaching at Pillow Academy, Coach Carpenter's impressive record has garnered him much recognition and commendation; and

WHEREAS, Coach Carpenter's pursuit of excellence motivated the Lady Mustangs to play harder and inspired them to win, but even more, to strive for the team's ultimate goal, which was the MPSA Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, through his 11 years of coaching and conditioning, Coach Carpenter has superbly coached and inspired all of his teams' players, and has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Carpenter's exhibition of superior coaching technique has proven successful as evidenced by the many accomplishments he has achieved in his career; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend the accomplishments of this outstanding coach and citizen, who serves as an important role model to his team members in and out of school:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Durwin Carpenter for his many accomplishments as coach of the Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs Basketball Team.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Durwin Carpenter, Pillow Academy and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
