A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS TARANCE (TARA) MCCALL SMITH FOR BEING SELECTED "MISS RANKIN COUNTY 2005."
WHEREAS, Miss Tarance (Tara) McCall Smith, a 21-year-old student at Ole Miss and daughter of former State Senator Rob Smith, was selected "Miss Rankin County" on February 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Tara was practically raised in the State Senate, serving as a Senate Page each session from 1994-2002. She spent many days with her father on the floor of the Senate observing debate and assisting with Senate activities; and
WHEREAS, at Richland High School, Tara served as Student Body President, attained a 4.0 Grade Point Average, graduated second in her class of 84 students; was an Honor Student for six years, was a scholar athlete in basketball, was active in JROTC for four years serving as Battalion Commander, and won numerous academic and school activity awards; and
WHEREAS, at Ole Miss, Tara has received the following awards and been involved in the following campus activities: Chancellor's Leadership Class, 2002-2003; Trent Lott Leadership Institute, 2001; Chancellor's Honor Roll; Academic Excellence Scholarship; Ole Miss Top 10 Beauty; National Society of Collegiate Scholars; National Dean's List; Order of Omega - Greek Honor Society - Phi Alpha Theta - History Honor Society; Pi Sigma Alpha - Political Science Honor Society; Gamma Beta Phi - Honor and Service Society; Associated Student Body Senator; Associated Student Body External Affairs Committee; Board of Directors for Student Advancement Foundation; Delta Gamma Sorority, Director of Activities and Anchor Splash; Student Rebel Athletic Foundation; and Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM); and
WHEREAS, she was selected Second Alternate in the Ole Miss "Miss University" pageant; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this gifted young lady, who has brought honor to her community, her university and to the Mississippi Senate:NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Tarance (Tara) McCall Smith for being selected "Miss Rankin County 2005" in ceremonies on February 26, 2005, and extend to her the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate for success as she competes in the Miss Mississippi Pageant in July, 2005.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Tara and her family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
