A RESOLUTION COMMENDING LATRELLE ASHLEY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 34 YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Mr. Latrelle Ashley of Morton, Mississippi, is leaving an exemplary record of 34 years of public service to the citizens of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, his resume of public service is a matter of record: 1976 - Assistant Comptroller and Personnel Director of Motor Vehicle Comptroller Office; 1977-1978 - Executive Director of Criminal Justice Planning Division of the Governor's Office; 1978-1984 - appointed Excise Tax Commissioner for the MS State Tax Commission, supervised 52 employees, responsible for all policies for agency and Alcohol Beverage Control Division; 1978-1983 - Chairman of Statewide Coordinating Council of Mississippi; 1978-1980 - Chairman of Council on Children; 1978-1982 - Chairman of Criminal Justice Planning Advisory Board; 1978-1980 - Chairman of Health Coordinating Council of Mississippi; 1992-Present - employed with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks as Director II in charge of 28 State Parks, handled $20 Million budget, and supervised 302 full- and part-time employees; and
WHEREAS, prior to his state service, Latrelle began his career as a school teacher: 1966-1967 - taught school at State Line High School, also coached football, won conference championship; 1967-1972 - taught at Mount Olive High School, served as Assistant Principal and coached football where he won two conference championships; he was raised in a retail store, Ashley Grocery, and became a successful businessman as co-owner of Magnolia Publishing Company, co-owner of Mid-South Audio and Leasing, Inc., co-owner of Ashley Sporting Goods, co-owner of Lyles Insurance Agency and co-owner of the largest furniture and jewelry store in East Central Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Jones Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, is married to Lanee Fairchild Ashley and has three daughters, Shontelle Ashley Barnes, LaChelle Ashley and Lauren Ashley; and it is with pride that we recognize the leadership and contributions of this Mississippian:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Latrelle Ashley for his 34 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Mississippi upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him on behalf of the Mississippi Senate the thanks of our state for a job well done.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Latrelle Ashley and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
