A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MICHAEL JORDAN, RECIPIENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI BUSINESS JOURNAL "TOP 40 UNDER 40" AWARD.
WHEREAS, Michael K. Jordan, Director of Staff Education and Training Services at Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield, Mississippi, is a recipient of the Mississippi Business Journal "Top 40 Under 40" Award for 2005; and
WHEREAS, Jordan began his career in the Mental Health field in 1989 as a Recreation Supervisor at East Mississippi State Hospital. He has been promoted several times since then to Director of Staff Education and Training Services for Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield, Mississippi, where he oversees the largest training and development department within the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. While climbing the career ladder, he found time to earn an Associate's Degree from Jones County Junior College in 1998, a Bachelor's Degree from Belhaven College in 2002, and an MBA from William Carey College in 2003; and
WHEREAS, in the past two years since being promoted to Staff Education Director, Michael has accomplished several major goals. He has more than doubled the continuing education credit hours for licensed and certified staff, brought in two new satellite broadcast training programs, increased the number of clinical affiliations by 23%, created a departmental Website and implemented a quarterly management training program for hospital leadership staff. These are just a few of the many accomplishments that have been made under his leadership; and
WHEREAS, in his current position, he supervises a staff of 19 and is responsible for training all new employees at the 915-bed hospital and providing annual training for the hospital's 2,500 employees, which includes the 472-bed Jaquith Nursing Home, eight Community Services facilities in Hinds County and three 17-bed Crisis Intervention Centers in Brookhaven, Cleveland and Grenada; and
WHEREAS, he is credited with brining national attention to Mississippi State Hospital as an American Heart Association Training Center. He also brought two new satellite broadcast systems to the hospital, including the Joint Commission Satellite Network and PsychCME, developed at Duke University Medical Center to broadcast live into clinical environments across the United States, offering "point of care" medical education in an interactive format; and
WHEREAS, Jordan moonlights as an Adjunct Professor at the Belhaven College School of Business, teaching courses in contemporary business, fundamentals of management and business policy/strategic management. He holds certifications in supervisory management from the Mississippi State Personnel Board and CPR basic instruction from the American Heart Association, is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a certified Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor. He graduated from the state's Certified Public Manager Program in December 2004; and
WHEREAS, one stress-buster Jordan enjoys is tailgating at baseball games every spring and football games every fall with his wife and two young children, and watching any sporting event that involves the Mississippi State University Bulldogs; and
WHEREAS, Michael is an excellent role model for his family and friends, and it is with pride that we recognize this citizen who has brought honor to his agency, his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Michael K. Jordan, Staff Education and Training Services Director for Mississippi State Hospital, recipient of the Mississippi Business Journal "Top 40 Under 40" Award for 2005, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Senate for success in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Michael Jordan, be forwarded to the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
