A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHOCTAW CENTRAL "LADY WARRIORS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH WALTER WILSON FOR THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THEIR OUTSTANDING 2004-2005 SEASON.
WHEREAS, with a 56-45 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Friday, March 11, 2005, the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors won their second consecutive Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A Girls Basketball Championship in front of thousands of ecstatic fans; and
WHEREAS, it was the fifth State Championship for the Lady Warriors. They finished as the state's best in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2005; and
WHEREAS, the win completed an amazing run for Choctaw Central, which has only lost three games in the last two years. The Lady Warriors finished this season with a 37-1 record as compared to last year's 36-2 mark. They ended the season ranked No. 1 in The Clarion Ledger Super 10 Poll; and
WHEREAS, it was veteran prep basketball Coach Walter Wilson who kept things in perspective throughout the season. The Lady Warriors were ranked No. 1 in the preseason prep polls and were dominating in most of their games. They looked like a different team through January and February, and stayed ahead of the competition throughout the post season. "This is a complete team," Coach Wilson said after his team's win over Southeast Lauderdale. "Winning the State Championship again was our goal and we felt we could do it, but we had to work toward it"; and
WHEREAS, the roster of the Mighty Warriors is as follows: Chantay Frazier (All-State, All-Division, All-South State Tournament selection, South All-Star selection, Dandy Dozen Senior selection), Mystee Dale (All-Division, All-South State Tournament, All-State), Kelly Willis (All-Division, All-South State Tournament selection, All-State), Shyatesa York (All-Division, All-South State Tournament), Kristi Willis, Ria Willis, Deonna Isaac, Casey Vaughn, Kristen Steve, Siah Denson, April Bell, Sheila Willis, Zennetta Williams and Ahinah Alex; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize "Destiny's Darlings" from Choctaw Central, whose second consecutive climb to the top of Mississippi Hoops world has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Choctaw Central High School "Lady Warriors" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Walter Wilson for their second consecutive Class 3A State Championship and outstanding 2004-2005 season, and wish them continued success in their future academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Lady Warriors and Principal Jonathan Carnes, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
