Senate Concurrent Resolution 595

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL "LADY TIGERS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH CRANDAL PORTER FOR THEIR 2005 CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND OUTSTANDING 2004-2005 SEASON.

WHEREAS, Newton High School's "Lady Tigers" Girls Basketball Team beat Coldwater High School 60-46 on Friday, March 11, 2005, in front of thousands of ecstatic fans to win the 2005 Class 2A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers finished the season with an outstanding 31-7 record and was ranked 5th in the state by the Associated Press; and

WHEREAS, Newton High School won the 2004 East Central Community College Invitational and the 2005 South State Tournament on its way to the Big House Championship, and the following individuals earned tournament awards: Chotsani Henderson, ECCC Tournament - MVP, Division Tournament - All-Region (5-2A), State Tournament - All-State Tournament Team, North/South All-Star Team; Jessica Anderson, ECCC Tournament - All-Tournament Team, Division Tournament - MVP, South State Tournament - South State Tournament Team, State Tournament - All-State Tournament Team; Karmarshea Jones, Division Tournament - All-Region (5-2A), South State Tournament - South State Tournament Team, State Tournament - All-Star Tournament Team; Whitney Thames, Division Tournament - All-Region (5-2A), South State Tournament - South State Tournament Team, North/South All-Star Team; Tawayatha Evans, Division Tournament - All-Region (5-2A) and Coach Crandal Porter, Region 5-2A Coach of the Year, MAC 2A Girls Coach of the Year, North/South All-Star Coach; and

WHEREAS, the roster of the 2004-2005 Lady Tigers is as follows: Jessica Anderson, Karmarshea Jones, Kimberly Caraway, Chotsani Henderson, Whitney Thames, Tawayatha Evans, Katera Evans, Victoria Moore, Nicole Williams, Dominique Murrell, Shey Nichols, Shereka Evans, Asia Tingle, Deonna Blaylock, Tiara Buckley, Leslie Thompson, Eunice McLaurin, Tawonna Patrick and Shebraille Wheaton; Managers: Ciera Johnson and Pedric Keyes; Head Coach, Crandal Porter, and Assistant Coach, Cory Cleveland; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this dedicated group of student athletes and coaches, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Newton High School "Lady Tigers" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Crandal Porter for winning the Class 2A State Championship and for their outstanding 2004-2005 season, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature for their future athletic and academic successes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Lady Tigers and Principal Kathi Wilson, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
