Senate Concurrent Resolution 583

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF LEWIS EDDIE BREWER, JR., AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.

     WHEREAS, Eddie was born on January 19, 1949, to Lewis and Lorene Brewer, Sr., and was a native and lifelong resident of Byram, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a loving husband to Pam Chambers Brewer, a loving father to his children, Michael, Marc, Michelle, Greg and Amanda, and a proud grandfather and uncle, Eddie was a strong family man and provider; and

     WHEREAS, Eddie was an avid hunter, active in youth baseball, served as a volunteer for the Byram Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Air National Guard, a lifelong member of the construction industry and currently an employee of the State of Mississippi, Department of Finance and Administration, Bureau of Building, Grounds and Real Property Management; and

     WHEREAS, Eddie was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Goodson Brewer; his sister, Elsa McGee; and his parents; and

     WHEREAS, having been diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2001, Eddie valiantly fought for four years to conquer the disease, helping to pioneer efforts by enduring numerous research drugs and finally a stem cell transplant in 2004 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and

     WHEREAS, Eddie was an inspiration to many throughout his life, especially through his fight with cancer; and

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of Eddie at the age of 56 on Saturday, March 5, 2005:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Lewis Eddie Brewer, Jr., and extend to his surviving family the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the family of Lewis Eddie Brewer, Jr., and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
