A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING ROBIN ROBERTS FOR HER PIONEERING ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN SPORTS BROADCASTING.
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts is a pioneer for women in the field of sports broadcasting; and
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts, a Mississippi Gulf Coast native, began her broadcasting career as a Sports Anchor and Reporter at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg (1983-1984) and WLOX-TV in Biloxi (1984-1986); and
WHEREAS, her successes have greatly expanded the opportunities for women in sports broadcasting; and
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts is recognized as one of the most versatile sports commentators; and
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts covered the 1996 Summer Olympics and the 1998 Winter Olympics; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her broadcasting excellence, she has received numerous awards, including the Excellence in Sports Journalism Award for Broadcast Media, Daughters of the American Revolution Television Award of Merit, the Women at Work Broadcast Journalism Award, and the Distinguished Achievement Award in Broadcasting from the University of Georgia DiGamma Kappa, the nations oldest broadcasting society; and
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts is a three-time Emmy Award Winner; and
WHEREAS, the Women's Institute on Sports and Education created Robin Roberts Sports Journalism Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, Robin Roberts' talent, work ethic and experience place her among the best broadcasting anchors in the nation; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her ability and accomplishments, she is now the News Anchor on Good Morning America:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Robin Roberts for her pioneering accomplishments in sports broadcasting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Robin Roberts and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
