A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PUBLIC AND CIVIC SERVICE OF JOHN V. CORRERO, LONGTIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, John V. Correro, Executive Director of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association since 1994, has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2005; and

     WHEREAS, John's legacy and dedication to Mississippi State University is a matter of record:  Honors at Mississippi State University:  three years Varsity Football Letterman; President, Campus "M" Club; President, Kappa Delta Pi, National Honor Society in Education; Omicron Delta Kappa, National Leadership and Scholarship Society; Blue Key, National Leadership and Scholarship Society; Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities; President's and Dean's Scholar; Mr. Mississippi State University.  Professional Work Experience:  Executive Director, Mississippi State University Alumni Association, 1994-present; Associate Director, Mississippi State University Alumni Association, 1975-1994; and Field Secretary, Mississippi State University Alumni Association, 1969-1975; and

     WHEREAS, prior to John's career at Mississippi State University, he received his B.S. Degree in Physical Education and Social Studies Education from Mississippi State University in 1962, and his Masters in Educational Administration and Counseling from MSU in 1964, served as Graduate Assistant at MSU from 1962-1963, served as Assistant Freshman Football Coach at MSU from 1963-1964, was Teacher and Assistant Football Coach at Natchez-Adams County High School from 1964-1967, and Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Natchez-Adams County High School from 1967-1969; and

     WHEREAS, John Correro's service activities and professional activities are impressive:  Member, St. Joseph Catholic Church; Past President, St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council, 1974; Past Member, Major Gifts Committee, St. Joseph Catholic Church; Member, Starkville-Oktibbeha County Chamber of Commerce; Chairman, Crusade for Cancer in Oktibbeha County, Fraternity Division, 1975; Member, Starkville Quarterback Club; Past President, Starkville Quarterback Club; Member, Starkville Country Club; Past Member, Board of Directors, Starkville Country Club, 1978-1980; Secretary/Treasurer, Mississippi State University "M" Club Alumni Association; Mississippi State University Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Sports Hall of Fame; Member, Mississippi State University Bulldog Club; Past Member, Starkville High School Yellowjacket Booster Club; and Sideline Commentator for Radio Broadcast of Mississippi State University football games; and

     WHEREAS, originally from Greenwood, Mississippi, John is married to Gloria Collum Correro, Professor and Associate Dean Emerita at MSU, and the couple have two children, Kim and Chris; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the career and legacy of public service of this citizen who has meant so much to his Alma Mater and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the public and civic service of longtime Executive Director of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, John Correro, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Legislature as he retires after 36 years of dedicated service to his university.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to John Correro and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
