Senate Concurrent Resolution 536

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. RUBY GAMBLE DYSE OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.

WHEREAS, Ruby Berenice Gamble Dyse, a respected Hinds County educator and President of the Jackson Metropolitan Retired Teachers Association, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, Ruby Berenice Gamble Dyse was born in Bolton, Mississippi, August 31, 1912. She was the seventh of nine children born to Joe and Mariah Gamble; and

WHEREAS, Ruby attended the St. Thomas Rosenwald School, and continued her education at Jackson College (now Jackson State University) where she received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1954. As an ardent educator, she taught in the Hinds County Schools and retired from Clinton Public Schools in 1973. Following her retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the United States, the Holy Land, Jerusalem, Germany, Egypt, and South America; and

WHEREAS, at an early age, Ruby dedicated her life to Christ. She was a devoted member of the St. Thomas Baptist Church where she served as a Mother and in various other capacities; and

WHEREAS, her culinary passion, leadership and entertainment skills compelled her to serve as Chairperson of the St. Thomas Food Committee, President of the Jackson Metropolitan Retired Teachers Association (1982-1983), and as a volunteer at Smith Robertson Senior Citizens Center for more than 20 years. She also participated in the Senior Olympics where she received several awards for bowling; and

WHEREAS, in 1930, Ruby married Andrew Dyse, who preceded her in death in 1969. To this union four children were born: Gladys Dyse White, Jackson, Mississippi, Marion Dyse (deceased), Johnnie M. Mathis, Glendale, Wisconsin; and Mariah Smith (deceased). From her children, she was blessed with eight grandchildren. These as well as nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her.

WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this citizen whose civic and church leadership was an inspiration: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Ruby Gamble Dyse of Jackson, Mississippi, and express to her surviving family the sympathy of the Legislature on her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Mrs. Dyse and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
