A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE LADY TROJANS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON OF PLAY AND WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans Basketball Team finished the 2004-2005 season with an impressive record of 19-8, winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Trojans clinched their first MACJC title in girls basketball since 1940, after defeating Northwest Community College Lady Rangers by a score of 71-59; and
WHEREAS, this year's Lady Trojans squad was the first basketball team in the Mississippi Delta Community College's history to advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXIII basketball tournaments' "Final Four" bracket; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Trojans have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Burnadette McDonald, who has broadened the player's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, a self-disciplined and self-motivated team, the Lady Trojans have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, they have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Mississippi Delta Community College; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans Basketball Team and their coach, for winning the (MACJC) State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mississippi Delta Community College, Head Coach Burnadette McDonald and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
