A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING COACH WOODY BARNETT OF PEARL HIGH SCHOOL FOR HIS CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND UPON HIS SELECTION AS 2004 NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Coach Woody Barnett, athletic director and track coach at Pearl High School, who has compiled an impressive career record of 2,298 wins, only 162 losses and 31 state championships since beginning his coaching career with the Pearl Public School District 27 years ago, was recently tapped by the National Federation of State High School Associations as 2004 National Coach of the Year in the sport of boys cross country; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Provine High School, Coach Barnett received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi College before commencing his career as an educator and coach at Pearl High School in 1977; and
WHEREAS, in the course of his career, Coach Barnett's impressive record has garnered much recognition and commendation in the form of 21 titles as Coach of the Year from the Clarion Ledger, Mississippi Association of Coaches and National Federation of Coaches Association; and
WHEREAS, through his years of coaching and conditioning, Coach Barnett's pursuit of excellence motivated the Pearl Pirates to run harder and inspired all of his players, and has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence in the accomplishments of such an outstanding Mississippian as Coach Barnett, whose rise to the top is continually in the making:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Woody Barnett for his many accomplishments as Coach of the Pearl Pirates Track Team.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Woody Barnett, Pearl High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
