A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL LADY WARRIORS FAST PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON OF PLAY FOR 2003-2004 AND WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITY ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Oak Grove High School Lady Warriors Fast Pitch Softball Team finished the 2004 season with an impressive record of 25-4, winning the Mississippi High School Activity Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, in only the fourth year of the program's inception, the Lady Warriors in addition to winning their first MHSAA Class 5A title, also clinched the Division 5-5A and South State Championships; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon the players for their outstanding display of skill and sportsmanship, including the selection of Logan James, Megan Hill, Holly Milner and Ashlyn Williams to the All-State Team; and the naming of Ashlyn Williams as the recipient of the Pop Allen Award presented by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, other members of the Lady Warriors squad include: Kim Kelly, Portia Korbe, Danielle McClinton, Jennifer Hatten, Tiffany Gray, Samantha Cloy, Shareika Sims, Amanda Jones, Erica Taite, Courtney Hill, Chandler Ivy, Michelle Abercrombie, Hannah Mantooth, Lavisha McClarin, Taylor Hurt, Kayla Haddock and Beonee McClarin; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gary Ivy, Assistant Coaches Paul Williams and Lavon James, who have broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, a self-disciplined and self-motivated team, the Lady Warriors have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, they have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Oak Grove High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Oak Grove High School Lady Warriors Fast Pitch Softball Team and their coaches for their phenomenal 2003-2004 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 5A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Oak Grove High School, Head Coach Gary Ivy, Assistant Coaches Paul Williams and Lavon James and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
