A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DEEDRA SIMS ON BEING SELECTED AS 2004 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Deedra Sims of Vicksburg, Mississippi, was selected as the 2004 State Games of Mississippi Female Athlete of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the award seeks to honor those athletes who personify the ideals of the State Games movement, such as participation, sportsmanship, achievement, effort and positive attitude; and

     WHEREAS, a first time participant in the State Games, Ms. Sims, who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, participated in the equestrian event; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims represents a dedicated spirit, whose sportsmanship is exhibited in her interaction with her peers and her congratulatory remarks to her fellow athletes; and  

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims is focused in her preparation for these events, has worked hard to master riding the horse by undergoing hippotherapy and is an all-around athlete; and

     WHEREAS, Deedra Sims demonstrates the true spirit of the State Games of Mississippi as she is committed to doing her best, enjoys the competition and has respect for the athletes, volunteers and staff who work, plan and implement this annual classic; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future: 

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Deedra Sims on being selected as the 2004 State Games of Mississippi Female Athlete of the Year and express our heartiest wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Deedra Sims and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
