House Resolution 56

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FALKNER HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON OF PLAY AND WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Falkner High School Lady Eagles Basketball Team finished the 2004-2005 season with an impressive record of 34-2, winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 2004 Lady Eagles clinched the MHSAA Class 1A title after defeating Mize by a score of 69-54; and

WHEREAS, members of the Lady Eagles squad include: Denisa Crum, Heather Leak, Tricia Leak, Kelsey Moore, Stefani Blades, Jakki Cartwright, Katie Moore, Morgan Robertson, Kayla Gunn, Amber Hopkins, Ally Morgan, Jeree Blackwell, Jarri Cartwright, Lakeshia Crum, Janay McDonald, Roderecka Prather, Marybeth Smith and Brittany Strong; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Mike Cartwright and team managers, Tierra Gaillard, Fatima Prather and Samson Rivera, who have broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, a self-disciplined and self-motivated team, the Lady Eagles have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, they have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Falkner High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Falkner High School Lady Eagles Basketball Team, their coach and team managers for their phenomenal 2004-2005 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 1A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Falkner High School, Head Coach Mike Cartwright and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
