House Resolution 40

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SERVICE OF DOUGLAS HARRIS FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF CONTRIBUTION AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Douglas Harris will retire as an employee of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) after more than 30 years of committed and diligent service to the State of Mississippi and the citizens of McComb and Pike County; and

     WHEREAS, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Lee Harris, Sr., Mr. Harris, an attendee of McCullough Attendance Center and a 1971 graduate of Monticello High School, received his B.S. degree in agriculture from Alcorn State University in 1975; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harris began his career with the USDA on May 20, 1974, as an agricultural management specialist student trainee before being promoted to assistant county supervisor on March 20, 1975; and

     WHEREAS, on March 9, 1980, Mr. Harris assumed new multiple duties as county supervisor, community development manager and rural development manager, a position he still maintains today; and

     WHEREAS, during his illustrious career with the USDA, Mr. Harris continues to maintain involvement in the community, serving on the Hospital Board of Directors in Amite County and being a member of the Wilkinson County Brotherhood; and

     WHEREAS, a devoted husband of 28 years, Mr. Harris is married to Lyndora R. Harris, and together they have two children, Constance H. Bradford and Kailya G. Harris; and one grandson, Jalyn Amar Bradford; two sisters, four brothers and one god-brother; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harris is a faithfully devoted member of the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, where he is a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and president of the combined choir; and

     WHEREAS, he has gone above and beyond the call of duty in his efforts of assuring the proper operation and facilitation of case management, and has used his God-given talent to render assistance to those in need; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence of such outstanding individuals as Douglas Harris, whose services to the State of Mississippi through the USDA are monumental in their own respect:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Douglas Harris upon his retirement after 30 years of dedicated and exemplary service to the United States Department of Agriculture, and we extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Harris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
