A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING S.C. PERKINS, JR., UPON BEING NAMED MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NORTHERN DISTRICT’S 2005 MISSISSIPPI LITTER LAWMAN OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Officer S.C. Perkins, Jr., the son of S.C. Perkins, Sr., and the late Doshua Mae Perkins, born September 20, 1947, in Leflore County, Mississippi, was recently named the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Northern District 2005 Mississippi Litter Lawman of the Year, having issued 104 citations; and
WHEREAS, Officer Perkins was presented this honor by MDOT and the Keep Mississippi Beautiful Foundation at the February 22, 2005, MDOT/KMB Law Enforcement Luncheon held at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum; and
WHEREAS, the eldest of eight children, Officer Perkins, who is a 1970 graduate of Amanda Elzy High School and a Mississippi Valley State University Alumnus holding a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts; and
WHEREAS, a former employee and union leader at Baldwin Piano and Organ Company, Officer Perkins has been employed with the Greenwood Police Department as litter control officer since January 13, 1989; and
WHEREAS, Officer Perkins is a member of the Providence Missionary Baptist Church and has served as Pastor of Mitchell Springs Missionary Baptist Church since 2000, enjoying the love, support and encouragement of his wife, Dorothy, three daughters and six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence in our state’s law enforcement officers, such as Officer Perkins, whose work as a keeper of the peace and protector of our values is to be praised for his immeasurable value to society:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Officer S.C. Perkins, Jr., upon being named MDOT Northern District 2005 Mississippi Litter Lawman of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Officer Perkins and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
