A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING OUR LADY ACADEMY CRESCENTS SOCCER TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2004-2005 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A/2A/3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Our Lady Academy Crescents Soccer Team finished the 2004-2005 season with a remarkable record of 20 wins, five losses and two ties; and

WHEREAS, throughout the regular season and playoffs, the Crescents fought and defeated many well-contended teams, and captured the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 2004-2005 Our Lady Academy Crescents Team made history by capturing the school's sixth consecutive state championship by defeating Greenville St. Joseph in the fifty-two-minute nail biting championship match; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated and superior play and their hard work this season, including the selection of Ellen Dauterive as Player of the Year; the naming of Lauren Rittiner, Meghan Flynt, Ellen Dauterive, Margaret Hadden and Annie Giardino to the All-State South Mississippi First Team; and the selection of Lauren Renx, Amanda Meyers and Sarah Loiacano to the All-State South Mississippi Second Team; and

WHEREAS, Our Lady Academy Crescents have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Danny Owens and Assistant Coach Steve Reboul, who have broadened the Crescents' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Danny Owens has brought additional honor to himself and to Our Lady Academy by being named Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches; and

WHEREAS, the Crescents have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, the Crescents have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Our Lady Academy; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Our Lady Academy Crescents Soccer Team and their coaches, Head Coach Danny Owens and Assistant Coach Steve Reboul, for their phenomenal 2004-2005 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Our Lady Academy, Head Coach Danny Owens, Assistant Coach Steve Reboul and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
