A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MASTER SERGEANT SEAN MICHAEL COOLEY AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Sean Michael Cooley, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, departed this earthly life on February 3, 2005, while serving the United States in furtherance of "Operation Iraqi Freedom," causing great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, a registered nurse at the Singing River Hospital, Master Sergeant Cooley was a member of the 150th Combat Engineer Battalion from Lucedale of the Mississippi Army National Guard, attached to 155th Brigade Combat Team that includes 3,500 soldiers from Mississippi, Vermont and Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, known for his valued work ethic, Master Sergeant Cooley went above and beyond the call of duty, enlisting in the National Guard after serving as a Navy Seabee; and
WHEREAS, his zeal for his medical job was well documented on a performance board at Singing River, and his concern for the plight of Iraqi children was similar to the local kids he helped and treated in the emergency room; and
WHEREAS, a fun-loving, free-spirited and independent-minded individual, Master Sergeant Cooley will be remembered most for his positive and upbeat attitude shared in quiet conversation and tender time spent with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, having lost his life in battle, Master Sergeant Cooley became the twenty-first soldier with Mississippi ties, the fifth Mississippi Guardsman to be lost in the combat against terror; and
WHEREAS, a loving husband, son, brother and friend, Master Sergeant Cooley will be sorely missed by those who experienced the depth of his love, commitment and compassion for life and pursuit of freedom for all, but the legacy of his memory will forever be etched in the hearts and memories of his survivors, including: his wife, Laura Cooley; parents, Jeff and Kathryn Cooley; brother, Patrick Cooley; grandparents, Amaziah and Inez Cooley and Frank Pazos, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence in such outstanding Mississippians as evidenced by the life and merits of Master Sergeant Cooley, whose gift to this state and nation was the ultimate sacrifice of life in order that others may have the opportunity to experience a life of freedom, peace and prosperity that we as citizens of the Great State of Mississippi and these United States of America are privileged to share daily:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life, services and accomplishments of Master Sergeant Sean Michael Cooley and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Master Sergeant Cooley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps
