A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SUCCESSFUL MUSIC CAREER AND CIVIC DEDICATION OF COUNTRY MUSIC SUPERSTAR AND MISSISSIPPI NATIVE FAITH HILL.
WHEREAS, raised in Star, Mississippi, Faith Hill moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 19, to follow her dream of musical stardom, watching it come into fruition in 1993, when her debut single, "Wild One," spent four weeks at No. 1 on the country music charts; and
WHEREAS, with a career based on dedication, passion and commitment, combined with her unparalleled vocal talents and style, Faith Hill has become one of the most sought-after entertainers in the business, leaving her fans spellbound by her dazzling voice; and
WHEREAS, taking the country music industry by storm with her phenomenal rise to stardom, Faith's 12-year career has marked one of the entertainment industry's most successful and steady climbs to the top; and
WHEREAS, having sold nearly 30 million records worldwide and celebrating 13 No. 1 chart positions and 18 No. 1 videos, her last two releases, which have sold in excess of 13 million copies to date, both debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Chart and Country Chart; and
WHEREAS, a multiple Grammy Award, Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, American Music Award and People's Choice Award-winning musician whose marketability knows no equal, Faith is slated to release her sixth album later this year; and
WHEREAS, Faith has appeared on the "Late Show with David Letterman," the "Today Show," the "Tonight Show," the "American Music Awards," the "Barbara Walters Special," "60 Minutes" and "Good Morning America," and her ability to draw television audiences nationwide is evidenced by the success of her own network television specials, even as she continues to grace the cover of an eclectic mix of magazines; and
WHEREAS, she performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXIV and has also performed at almost every major award show, including multiple appearances at The Academy Awards, The Grammy Awards and VH1's Divas 1999 and 2000. As clearly one of this generation's most likeable, credible and most visible talents, it comes as no surprise that Faith has starred in numerous motion pictures; and
WHEREAS, despite her busy schedule and family obligations to Nashville husband and country celebrity, Tim McGraw, and daughters, Gracie, Maggie and Audrey Caroline, Faith has found the time to be a moving force behind the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center in Meridian, Mississippi, which will showcase stars with Mississippi ties; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the unparalleled vocal talent and popularity of this Mississippian whose success on top of the music business has brought positive recognition to our state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the successful music career of country music superstar and Mississippi native, Faith Hill, commend her for supporting the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center, and extend to her the greetings and best wishes of the Legislature on her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to Faith Hill and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
