A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH FOR HEALTH AWARENESS, INC., FOR ITS LEADERSHIP IN PREVENTIVE HEALTH MEASURES ADDRESSING THE CRITICAL HEALTH NEEDS OF MISSISSIPPI CITIZENS.

     WHEREAS, Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., (COHA) is a nonprofit community based organization of volunteer health care workers dedicated to improving the health of Mississippi's disadvantaged citizens through free health education and screenings; and

     WHEREAS, Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., was founded in 1994 as a community organization for health awareness, and has since grown to a statewide organization providing free services to over 10,000 Mississippians; and

     WHEREAS, Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., assists Mississippi communities with addressing the astounding statistics related to heart attacks, strokes, cancer, teen pregnancy, teen alcohol and drug abuse as well as other health related matters; and

     WHEREAS, Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., is governed by its Board of Directors and general body and depends on medical practitioners, social service and other personnel along with community residents to volunteer their talent and resources in a collaborative effort to engage, educate and inform underserved communities with regard to the prevention of diseases that plaque our population; and

     WHEREAS, Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., has had a positive impact on the lives of many residents as a result of its annual health fairs at no cost to the recipients and it is committed to improving the overall quality of life for many Mississippians:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That the Mississippi State Senate hereby commends the activities of Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., for its leadership in preventive health measures addressing the critical health needs of Mississippi citizens.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Community Outreach for Health Awareness, Inc., and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
