House Resolution 16

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING INFORMATION CONCERNING GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR'S EXPENSES FOR CERTAIN ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES IN THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION.

     WHEREAS, Section 60 of the Mississippi Constitution authorizes the Legislature to conduct investigations; and

     WHEREAS, this provision of the Mississippi Constitution permits resolutions relating to the investigation of public officers; and

     WHEREAS, this provision of the Mississippi Constitution states that such resolutions among other things may empower legislative committees to send for papers and generally make legislative investigations effective; and

     WHEREAS, under this authority, the Mississippi House of Representatives requests Governor Haley Barbour to provide any and all information concerning monies expended for food, alcoholic beverages and any other expenses associated with the entertainment of guests at the Governor's mansion, and the names of all persons, including guests, members of the Governor's staff and any public officials, who attended the functions for which the expenditures were made; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to protect the interests of the citizens of this state by investigating how government funds are being spent:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby request all information concerning Governor Haley Barbour's expenses for certain entertainment activities in the Governor's mansion.
