House Resolution 7

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM UPON ITS OUTSTANDING 2003-2004 SEASON AND WINNING THE Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College's (MACJC) STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Pearl River Community College Wildcats Men's Football Team had an outstanding year, finishing the 2003-2004 season with an impressive record of 10-1 and ranked No. 4 on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA); and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats Football Team won the 2003-2004 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College's (MACJC) State Championship by defeating the Hinds Community College Eagles, 21-17; and

     WHEREAS, showcasing immense talent, the Wildcats have brought great honor and pride to Pearl River Community College, the "Pioneer Junior College," by securing the institution's sixteenth MACJC State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, there have also been individual honors obtained by Wildcats' players, including the naming of Larry Kendrick as All-American wide receiver and defensive back, in addition to his selection as NJCAA's "Defensive Player of the Year," MACJC-Region 23 "Most Valuable Player," All-Region 23 and All-MACJC honors; and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats have been superbly coached and inspired this season by Head Coach Tim Hatten, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Pearl River Community College; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Community College Wildcats Football Team and their coach for their outstanding 2003-2004 season, for winning the MACJC State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pearl River Community College, Head Coach Tim Hatten and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
