A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL TEAM UPON ITS OUTSTANDING 2003-2004 SEASON AND WINNING THE Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College's (MACJC) STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Pearl River Community College Wildcats Men's Baseball Team had an outstanding year, finishing the 2003-2004 season with an impressive record of 42-10 and ranked No. 2 by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA); and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats Baseball Team won the 2003-2004 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College's (MACJC) State Championship by defeating the Hinds Community College Eagles, 10-2; and
WHEREAS, showcasing immense talent, the Wildcats have brought great honor and pride to Pearl River Community College, the "Pioneer Junior College," by securing the institution's first MACJC State Baseball Championship; and
WHEREAS, there have also been individual honors obtained by Wildcats' players, including the naming of Rhyne Hughes, who finished the season leading the NJCAA with 18 home runs, as an All-American candidate; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats have been superbly coached and inspired this season by Head Coach Jay Artigues, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Artigues has brought additional honor to himself and Pearl River Community College throughout his career with the school by having guided his team to its first-ever Region 23 and Super Regional titles and a berth in the 2002 NJCAA Division II World Series; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Pearl River Community College; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Community College Wildcats Baseball Team and their coach for their outstanding 2003-2004 season, for winning the MACJC State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pearl River Community College, Head Coach Jay Artigues and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
