A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER AND LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE OF DR. DENNIS TOSH, DEPARTMENT CHAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, the Department of Finance at the University of Mississippi lost one of its finest professors recently when Dennis Tosh decided to retire and bypass teaching in the Fall of 2003; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Tosh served as Department Chair of Real Estate and has coordinated all real estate programs since 1980. He won the School of Business's Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in 1997, as well as in 2003; and
WHEREAS, he has published articles in countless journals and textbooks. His articles include "Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Appraising," "The Campus and Economic Development in Tupelo, Mississippi: Modeling a Journey from Early Vision to Enhancement," "FIRREA, Appraisal Reports, and Bank Compliance," "Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice: Implications for the Financial Community" and "Understanding Real Estate: Don't Forget the Fundamentals." His textbooks include Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice: Applying the Standards; Fair Lending and the Appraiser; Questions and Answers to Help You Pass the Real Estate Appraisal Certification Exam; Appraiser's Real Estate Appraisal Compliance Manual; Real Estate Handbook; and Real Estate Principles for License Preparation; and
WHEREAS, winner of the Distinguished Faculty Award in 1999, he is also a member of various real estate societies, including Rho Epsilon Professional Real Estate Fraternity (National President), Real Estate Educators Association (National Board of Directors), and American Real Estate Urban Economics Association (State Membership Chairperson); and
WHEREAS, Dennis Tosh is retired from the University of Mississippi after being one of the founders of FNC, Inc., based in Oxford, Mississippi. This corporation is providing collateral infrastructure to the United States real estate loan sector. With a solid reputation serving many of the nation's largest lenders, FNC's technology solutions, data management and analytics services are fast becoming the industry standard; and
WHEREAS, State Senator Walter Michel (B.B.A. 1983) was Dr. Tosh's first real estate student to declare real estate as his major in 1980; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the legacy of excellence left by this distinguished faculty member, who has brought honor to his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the career and legacy of excellence of Dr. Dennis Tosh, Department Chair at the University of Mississippi, on the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Senate on his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Tosh and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
