A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KELLI JACKSON OF STURGIS, MISSISSIPPI, FOR WINNING THE 2004 MISS DIXIE NATIONAL RODEO QUEEN COMPETITION.
WHEREAS, Kelli Jackson of Sturgis, Mississippi, received top honors at the recent Miss Dixie National Rodeo Queen Competition in Jackson, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Kelli was crowned the 2004 Miss Dixie National and received a sash, crown, trophy and belt buckle as a part of the honors in receiving the title; and
WHEREAS, the Dixie National Rodeo and Livestock Show is the largest livestock show and rodeo east of the Mississippi River. Sixteen-year-old Kelli Jackson was top finalist in her respective age group in the competition. The Miss Dixie National category was for contestants ages 14 to 18 years old; and
WHEREAS, the contestants were judged on modeling, horsemanship, personal interviews, impromptu questions and grand entry appearances as related to the western lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, her duties now include promoting the Dixie National Rodeo and Livestock Show as well as the sport of rodeo and the western lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, Kelli's duties during the recent Dixie National Rodeo were to ride into the arena at the beginning of every rodeo performance, and she spoke to people in the audience about rodeo, queening and their own horses; and
WHEREAS, as Miss Dixie National, Kelli signed autographs and appeared on the local Jackson television and radio stations; and
WHEREAS, the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo sponsors the President's Luncheon during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. Kelli is invited to attend the WNFR to support our great State of Mississippi and represent the Dixie National; and
WHEREAS, Kelli is an honor student at Starkville Academy and the daughter of Gary and Nancy Jackson of Sturgis; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this student who has brought honor to her school, her community, her parents and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kelli Jackson of Sturgis, Mississippi, for winning the 2004 Miss Dixie National Rodeo Queen Competition, and extend to this young lady and her parents the best wishes of the Legislature for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Kelli Jackson and her parents and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
