Senate Concurrent Resolution 570

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JACK CARLISLE, OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL AND TRACK COACH FOR FIVE DECADES, UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI SPORTS HALL OF FAME, CLASS OF 2004.

     WHEREAS, the Jackson Touchdown Club and Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled the Class of 2004 of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, which features Jack Carlisle, outstanding high school and university football and track coach whose career spans five decades; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Amory, Mississippi, whose loss of a leg at an early age did not deter him from developing into one of the finest coaches in Mississippi history; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Carlisle coached high school football and track at Ethel, Lula-Rich, Nettleton, Collierville, Tennessee, Murrah, Jackson Preparatory Academy and Madison-Ridgeland Academy; he led Murrah High School from 1961-1971 to 2 Big Eight Football State Championships, 8 city gridiron titles with 2 co-championships, 8 city track championships, and 7 state track titles; he guided Jackson Preparatory Academy from 1971-1975 to 3 academy state football titles in four years and 2 state track crowns; he coached football at Madison-Ridgeland Academy from 1983-1994, including an undefeated season and the 1992 AAA state football title; and

     WHEREAS, he served as an Assistant Football Coach and Head Track Coach at Ole Miss from 1975-1977, Head Football Coach at East Tennessee State from 1978-1982 and also coached at St. Joseph's High School in Jackson, East Central Community College, Simpson Academy, Millsaps College and Mississippi College and served as Athletic Director at University Christian School in Brandon, Mississippi, and is still coaching at the age of 73; and

     WHEREAS, overall, his teams won 262 games with 70 losses and 17 ties for an 81% winning mark.  His high school football teams captured a total of 7 state championships, while his track squads won 9 state crowns; and

     WHEREAS, named "Coach of the Year," an amazing 20 times, 10 times each for football and track, 140 of his players received college scholarships in athletics; and

     WHEREAS, with his induction, he will be a member of five athletic halls of fame:  Collierville High School (1975), Mississippi Association of Coaches (1989), Jackson Preparatory Academy (1996), East Mississippi Community College (2003) and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame (2004); and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding coach who has brought honor to every community and school where he has been associated, and has brought honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Jack Carlisle, outstanding high school and university football and track coach whose career spans five decades, upon his induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2004, and wish him and his family continued success in all their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Carlisle at induction ceremonies and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
