A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DAVID ROBERTSON AND TONY BUSBY FOR THEIR COURAGEOUS AND HEROIC ACTIONS ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2004.
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, February 11, 2004, an automobile carrying a mother and her two infant children left U.S. Highway 45 in South Alabama near the Mississippi state line and entered frigid and flood-swollen waters; and
WHEREAS, driving behind the stricken vehicle were two eighteen-wheel Coca-Cola delivery trucks, one driven by David Robertson of Starkville, Mississippi, and the other by Tony Busby of Ackerman, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the two men discovered the deadly situation and courageously entered the icy waters, disregarding the peril to themselves, in search for the victim who was trapped beneath the surface; and
WHEREAS, the mother was able to rescue her four-year old son, but David and Tony went underwater into the vehicle, cut the two-year old girl loose from her child restraint and pulled the victim to the surface onto the top of the vehicle; and
WHEREAS, in a dramatic scene in the stark struggle for life, the girl was pulled to safety and then David administered CPR to the little girl; and
WHEREAS, these quick-thinking brave drivers were employed by C.C. Clark, Inc., of Starkville, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature wishes to recognize and thank these men for their daring, courageous, compassionate and heroic actions at the scene of a near tragedy:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend David Robertson of Starkville, Mississippi, and Tony Busby of Ackerman, Mississippi, for their courageous and heroic rescue action on February 11, 2004, and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature on their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. David Robertson and Mr. Tony Busby, forwarded to C.C. Clark, Inc., and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
