AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-67, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE DEDUCTIONS FROM SALARIES OF MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY; TO AUTHORIZE DEDUCTIONS FROM SALARIES OF STATE EMPLOYEES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE UNITED WAY, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, INSURANCE AND UNITED STATES SAVINGS BONDS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 25-3-67, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
25-3-67. (1) The governing authorities of any municipality may, within their discretion, deduct from the salary of any individual municipal employee an amount to be deposited with the municipal credit union, contributions for the United Way, American Cancer Society, life, health-and-accident insurance and United States Savings Bonds, if a request for such deductions is made in writing by the employee.
(2) The executive head of any state department, agency, board, commission or institution may, within his discretion, deduct from the salary of any individual state employee an amount to be deposited with the state credit union, contributions for the United Way, American Cancer Society, life, health-and-accident insurance and United States Savings Bonds, if a request for such deductions is made in writing by the employee.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
