A RESOLUTION COMMENDING LEON SHAIFER FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE MISSISSIPPI EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY.
WHEREAS, for the past 30 years, Mr. Leon Shaifer has provided a wealth of outstanding and committed services to both the state and local emergency management agencies and has been a dedicated and valued employee; and
WHEREAS, after attending the University of Mississippi, Mr. Shaifer began his career in emergency management as the part-time Director of the City of Clarksdale and Coahoma County's Emergency Management Agency on March 21, 1974; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mr. Shaifer served as Director of the Coahoma County Civil Defense and has served the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) in many capacities since October 31, 1986; and
WHEREAS, currently fulfilling the position of Deputy Director of MEMA, Mr. Shaifer's dedication and devotion to emergency management allowed him to work through 22 Presidential Disaster Declarations, 36 Small Business Administration Disaster Declarations and numerous Gubernatorial Disaster Declarations for the state; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Shaifer, who has always responded to the citizens of the State of Mississippi in any time of crisis, earned the love and respect of his family, including his wife, Dee Shaifer, and their four daughters, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, the House of Representatives wishes to recognize the excellence of Mr. Shaifer, whose services to the State of Mississippi have ensured the requisite assistance and safety of the state's citizens in times of crisis:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Leon Shaifer for his 30 years of outstanding and dedicated services provided to the state and local emergency management agencies in the State of Mississippi, and extend our warmest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Leon Shaifer and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
