A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SERVICE OF LESLIE ELLINGTON FOR HER YEARS OF CONTRIBUTION AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AS CAPITOL NURSE AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, Leslie Ellington retired from her position as Capitol Nurse at the commencement of the 2004 Mississippi Legislative Session after five (5) years of committed and diligent service to the state, Mississippi Legislators, Capitol staff and its many citizens; and
WHEREAS, born Leslie Horne, in Jackson, Mississippi, where she attended the Jackson Public Schools, she graduated from Hinds Community College in 1983 with an associate degree in nursing; and
WHEREAS, at the commencement of her employment with the State of Mississippi in 1999, Nurse Ellington assumed the position vacated by long-time Capitol Nurse, Mavis Barlow; and
WHEREAS, as the Capitol Nurse, Nurse Ellington patiently, attentively and effectively accommodated the medical needs of those requiring her assistance, all the while facilitating an atmosphere of professional courtesy for visiting physicians and "Doctors of the Day"; and
WHEREAS, the lovely and gracious personality of Nurse Ellington made it a pleasure to share fellowship with her, even when her services as a medical professional were not needed; and
WHEREAS, during her career with the State of Mississippi, Nurse Ellington has served under the leadership of three (3) governors, including Governors Kirk Fordice, Ronny Musgrove and Haley Barbour; and
WHEREAS, a devoted wife of 41 years, Leslie is married to State Representative Jim Ellington, and together they have two daughters, Deborah Ellington and Angela Reagan, and one grandson, Jay Reagan; and
WHEREAS, Nurse Ellington has gone above and beyond the call of duty in her efforts of assuring the best health and well-being of the Legislators, other government officials, Capitol staff and the many constituents and out-of-state visitors who frequent the New Capitol each year; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence of such outstanding state employees as Leslie Ellington, whose services to the State of Mississippi are very much appreciated and whose presence will be greatly missed at the New Capitol:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Leslie Ellington upon her retirement from the position of Capitol Nurse and for her years of dedicated and exemplary service to the State of Mississippi, and we extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Leslie Ellington and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
