A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BYHALIA HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2003-2004 SEASON AND FOR BEING THE RUNNER-UP IN THE STATE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Byhalia High School Indians Boys Basketball Team finished the 2003-2004 season with a notable record of 27 wins and 13 losses; and
WHEREAS, throughout their season the Indians participated in several tournaments and placed second in the District Tournament and in the North State Tournament and were runner-up in the State Championship Tournament, which was their fourth visit to the state playoffs in nine years; and
WHEREAS, the Indians were superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Charles Gillespie, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, in addition, Coach Gillespie was named Coach of the Year during the 2002-2003 basketball season for his remarkable coaching efforts; and
WHEREAS, several of the Indians have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and excellent play this season, including the naming of Marcella Jefferson, Brandon Davis and Randall Davis as All-District Team Members and All-State Team Members; and
WHEREAS, the Byhalia High School Indians have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring great honor to Byhalia High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when displayed by the young people of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Byhalia High School Indians Boys Basketball Team and Coach Charles Gillespie for their outstanding 2003-2004 season and express our heartiest wishes for success in all their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Byhalia High School, Coach Charles Gillespie and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
