A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF RAE MILLER SUESS AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.
WHEREAS, Rae Miller Suess, born January 25, 1925, to Randall and Grace Babcock Miller in San Antonio, Texas, departed this earthly life on January 8, 2004, at the age of 78, causing great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, she graduated from high school in Lawton, Oklahoma, and attended Cameron Junior College and Oklahoma University where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority; and
WHEREAS, upon the completion of her course of study, Mrs. Suess became a food service supervisor for the field artillery men and officers stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and met her future husband, Captain James F. Suess, a training director in the field artillery school; and
WHEREAS, they were united in holy matrimony after World War II on March 24, 1946, and moved to Chicago and later to Warren, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, having developed her skills in tennis, golf and duplicate bridge, the family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, in 1962, where she continued her pursuit of golf at the Colonial Country Club where she was president of the "18 holers" and the "9 holers"; and
WHEREAS, a fervently faithful and devoted member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church, Mrs. Suess shared a deep passion for travel and visited all seven continents by circumnavigating the world from West to East and East to West by air and sea; and
WHEREAS, having traveled so extensively, Mrs. Suess considered London her favorite place to visit, and while there she completed the intermediate and advanced certification from the Cordon Bleu Cookery School as well as the London/England Education Trust; and
WHEREAS, though her passing has caused much sorrow to those whose lives she touched, the legacy of her memory will forever be cherished and live on in the hearts, minds and spirits of those who knew and loved her most, her survivors, including: her husband, Jim; daughter, Rae Ann Roberson; sons, Jim, II, and Randy; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay special tribute to such outstanding individuals as Mrs. Suess, whose life was a beacon of hope and a ray of sunshine to all who shared the privilege of meeting her:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Mrs. Rae Miller Suess and express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Jim Suess and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
