House Resolution 46

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING BRITTANIE NICOLE ELLIOTT ON RECEIVING THE 2004 WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR/ATHLETE HEISMAN AWARD.

WHEREAS, Brittanie Nicole Elliott, the daughter of Bridgett Elliott and the late Robert Elliott, Jr., was recently selected the winner of the 2004 Wendy's High School Scholar/Athlete Heisman Award for females; and

WHEREAS, a very active and outgoing senior at Okolona High School, managing her time, commitment and faculties to various academic, extracurricular and community organizations, Brittanie maintains a 3.8 GPA and has been inducted into the United States Achievement Academy, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Who's Who Among American High School Athletes, National Honor Roll and Principal's Honor List; and

WHEREAS, her school activities at Okolona High School include participation in the marching band, varsity track, captain of the cheerleading squad, basketball, English Club, DECA, student council president, National Honor Society and National Vocational Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, listed on the Honor Roll since first grade, Brittanie holds the highest academic average in reading/literature, cooperative education, creative writing and computer discovery, additionally receiving numerous awards and honors for band, competitive cheerleading, basketball and track; and

WHEREAS, having strong community involvements, Brittanie is president of Peer Helpers and vice president of A Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi's Frontline Team, and has been recipient of the Eboni Gems Junior Sorority Volunteer of the Year Award, Emerging Leader Award, named Little Miss National Council of Negro Women for 2000 and the 2002 Golden Circle Debutante; and

WHEREAS, a member of Jehovah Jireh Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Brittanie is adamant about her religious and spiritual life, participating in the youth choir; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, as especially evidenced by this beautiful, talented and intellectual young lady, Miss Brittanie Nicole Elliott:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Brittanie Nicole Elliott upon being named the 2004 Wendy's High School Scholar/Athlete Heisman Award recipient for females and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Brittanie Nicole Elliott and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
