A RESOLUTION URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO PASS A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PROTECT AND ASSURE THAT PROMISED SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS FOR AMERICAN RETIREES AND WORKERS ARE PRESERVED.
WHEREAS, the Social Security Act and the benefits it promises to provide to millions of working and retired Americans are a sacred and solemn compact which must not be allowed to be violated; and
WHEREAS, promised social security benefits are a key element of the retirement income of millions of working Americans whose lives and ability to live in dignity in their retirement would be threatened if any proposed reductions were made in promised Social Security benefits; and
WHEREAS, we, as Americans, must assure that fairness and decency prevail in the treatment of older and disabled Americans which is the primary purpose of the Social Security Act; and
WHEREAS, constitutional protection of social security would help to assure that promised social security benefits are available to Americans when they retire and are not used for other less essential purposes; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby request the Congress of the United States to protect and assure that promised social security benefits for American retirees and workers are protected and preserved by means of adoption of a constitutional amendment.
