House Resolution 10

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE GREAT CITIZENS OF MISSISSIPPI FOR THEIR RECORD PARTICIPATION IN THE NOVEMBER 4, 2003, ELECTION.

     WHEREAS, on November 4, 2003, the citizens of Mississippi voted in record numbers in the general election; and

     WHEREAS, to improve the election process in our great state, to enfranchise voters, and to increase civic participation by  citizens, we recognize voter participation in Mississippi and encourage our citizens to remain active in the political process; and

     WHEREAS, in the past, many citizens within our state may have felt disenfranchised and unable to vote on election day because of inefficiencies and mistakes in the voter registration system; and

     WHEREAS, in spite of past or current disenfranchisement and inefficiencies, Mississippi citizens continue to vote and encourage other citizens to come to the polls on election day; and

     WHEREAS, recognition of large voter turnout would increase voter participation in elections and strengthen our democratic institutions thereby strengthening the great State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State of Mississippi to encourage voting amongst its citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend the great citizens of Mississippi for record participation in the November 4, 2003, election.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
