A RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO MEMORIALIZE JULY 2, 2004, AS "NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY."
WHEREAS, to improve the United States election process, to enfranchise voters, and to increase civic participation by citizens, July 2, 2004, shall be declared "National Voter Registration Day"; and
WHEREAS, many citizens within our state and throughout the country are unable to vote on election day because of inefficiencies and mistakes in the voter registration system; and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day would increase voter participation in elections and strengthen our democratic institutions, thereby strengthening the great State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, on July 2, 2004, citizens of this great country will be encouraged to register to vote and become active participants in this country's democratic process; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State of Mississippi to encourage voting amongst citizens locally and nationally:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we urge the United States Congress to memorialize July 2, 2004, as "National Voter Registration Day."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
