A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GORDON WITHMOND FELLOWS ON BEING ELECTED THE 87TH ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Gordon Withmond Fellows, a Junior International Studies Major from Tupelo, Mississippi, was elected as the 87th Associated Student Body (ASB) President at the University of Mississippi on February 17, 2004, and inaugurated on March 31; and

     WHEREAS, before serving as ASB President, Gordon was an ASB Senator from Kincannon Hall and the School of Liberal Arts, in addition to serving on the ASB Cabinet for the 2002-2003 academic year; and

     WHEREAS, prior to becoming ASB President-elect, Gordon was  recently elected ASB Senator of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Gordon's activities outside of the ASB include serving as Risk Reduction Manager and Alumni Relations Chairman for Sigma Nu Fraternity; and

     WHEREAS, also a member of the University of Mississippi Forensics team, he has won the Superior Speaker Award at the DSR-TKA National Student Congress Championships twice; and

     WHEREAS, active in all aspects of the university, Gordon is a member of various honor societies, including Lambda Sigma, Order of Omega, Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa; and

     WHEREAS, over the next year as ASB President, Gordon will work to improve transportation issues, extend wireless Internet and lower the costs of textbooks; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the accomplishments of our state's upcoming leaders and ambassadors, as evidenced by the successes of the young and talented Gordon Fellows:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Gordon Withmond Fellows on being elected the 87th Associated Student Body President at the University of Mississippi and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Gordon W. Fellows and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
