AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-67, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT GOVERNING AUTHORITIES MAY DEDUCT FROM A MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE'S SALARY AN AMOUNT TO BE DEPOSITED WITH CERTAIN ORGANIZATIONS AT THE REQUEST OF THE EMPLOYEE; TO CLARIFY THAT STATE AGENCIES MAY DEDUCT FROM A STATE EMPLOYEE'S SALARY AN AMOUNT TO BE DEPOSITED WITH ANY ORGANIZATION AT THE REQUEST OF THE EMPLOYEE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 25-3-67, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     25-3-67.  (1)  The governing authorities of any municipality or the board of supervisors of any county, within their discretion, may deduct from the salary of any individual municipal employee an amount to be deposited with the municipal credit union, contributions for the American Cancer Society, United Way, life, health-and-accident insurance and United States Savings Bonds, if a request for such deductions is made in writing by the employee.

     (2)  Any state agency, within the discretion of the executive head of the state agency, may deduct from the salary of a state employee an amount to be deposited with the American Cancer Society or any other organization, group or company, if a request for any such deductions is made in writing by the employee.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
