AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS SHALL COMMISSION THE DESIGN AND BUILDING OF A SCULPTURE WHICH SHALL SERVE AS A SYMBOL OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI FOR TOURISM PROMOTION; TO PROVIDE FOR THE LOCATION OF THE SCULPTURE; TO PROVIDE FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SCULPTURE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks shall commission the design and building of a sculpture which shall serve as a symbol of the State of Mississippi for the purpose of promoting tourism.  The sculpture shall be located at a site in Hinds County.  The department shall consult with the governing authorities of Hinds County and the political subdivision in Hinds County to determine the best location.

     (2)  The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks shall oversee the development of the sculpture in conjunction with the designer, sculptor, architect and any others involved with this project, including, but not limited to, cost determination, feasibility, management and maintenance of the sculpture upon completion.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
