AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 65-7-115, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROHIBIT BOARDS OF SUPERVISORS IN COUNTIES THAT ARE REQUIRED TO OPERATE ON A COUNTYWIDE SYSTEM OF ROAD ADMINISTRATION FROM PURCHASING OR LEASING MOTOR VEHICLES FOR USE BY INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE BOARD FROM AND AFTER JANUARY 1, 2005; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 65-7-115, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
[With regard to any county which is exempt from the provisions of Section 19-2-3, this section shall read as follows:]
65-7-115. The supervisor of each district in each county is to have and is required to exercise general supervision over the public highways of his district.
[With regard to any county which is required to operate on a countywide system of road administration as described in Section 19-2-3, this section shall read as follows:]
65-7-115. (1) The board of supervisors in each county is to have and is required to exercise jurisdiction over the public highways of the county.
(2) Until January 1, 2005, the board of supervisors may by order duly adopted and entered on its minutes, provide for such transportation of individual members of the board as is necessary and essential in the performance of their official duties. From and after January 1, 2005, the board of supervisors may not purchase or lease motor vehicles for use by individual members of the board.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
