AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

                             Committee Sub. for HB NO. 897

                             By Representative(s) Hudson

     AMEND by deleting lines 819 through 821 in their entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

               "(47)  Notwithstanding any other provision in this article to the contrary, the division, in conjunction with the State Department of Health, shall develop and implement disease management programs * * * for individuals with asthma, diabetes or hypertension, including the use of grants, waivers, demonstrations or other projects as necessary.  Disease management services for individuals participating in a disease management program must be provided to the individual in person, not by mail or on the telephone.  Not later than July 1, 2003, the division shall report to the Chairmen of the Public Health and Welfare Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate on the demonstrated amount of savings to the State of Mississippi as a result of disease management programs implemented by the division since March 6, 2002."

     AMEND FURTHER the title by deleting the language beginning after the semicolon on line 24 through the semicolon on line 25 and inserting in lieu thereof the following language:  "TO DELETE THE REQUIREMENT THAT DISEASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS BE IMPLEMENTED STATEWIDE; TO REQUIRE DISEASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED TO PARTICIPATING INDIVIDUALS IN PERSON; TO REQUIRE THE DIVISION TO REPORT TO THE LEGISLATURE ON THE DEMONSTRATED AMOUNT OF SAVINGS TO THE STATE AS A RESULT OF DISEASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS IMPLEMENTED BY THE DIVISION;"
